The chapter discusses the importance of having a pharmacovigilance program for AYUSH drugs. While traditional systems of medicine such as Ayurveda have been practiced for centuries and are considered safe, modern scientific practices require clinical data to support their use. Hence, a pharmacovigilance program is essential for giving credibility to AYUSH drugs. The quality of AYUSH drugs can be compromised by poor quality raw materials, plant preparations, and not following specific procedures. Good dispensing practices are necessary to ensure that the correct medicine is delivered to the right patient in the correct dosage and quantity, with clear instructions, and in packaging that maintains the potency of the medicine. Clinical use should be regulated by adopting Good Clinical Practice of ASU system to avoid adverse drug reactions. Additionally, cooperation and sharing of information among related drug regulating agencies should be promoted to ensure the safety and efficacy of AYUSH drugs.
