Recent Global Research Developments in Exploring Marital Adjustment in Working Couples
Marital Adjustment is a multidimensional indicator of the quality of a marital relationship. It reflects how well partners adapt to each other’s needs, communicate, and maintain satisfaction within their marriage. Here are some insights from recent research:
Definition and Controversies:
- Marital adjustment is a complex construct, and its definition varies. Some describe it as overall happiness and satisfaction between spouses.
- Researchers have explored factors related to marital adjustment, including personality traits, irrational beliefs, and relational aspects like romantic attachment and dyadic coping [1].
Recent Studies:
- A study examined gender differences in marital adjustment among single and dual earner couples (aged 25 to 45).
- Findings revealed that single working couples tend to have better marital adjustment than dual working couples [2].
Impact on Well-Being:
- Marital adjustment influences individual outcomes:
- Life satisfaction
- Physical health
- Psychological well-being
- Dyadic coping
- Good sex life
- Positive marital relationships act as buffers against life stressors, especially in elderly life when a partner becomes ill [1].
