Integrated disease management in rice against the menace of blast disease in Improved Practice(IP) gave excellent results compared to the Farmers Practice (FP). Yield ranged from 61 to 73q ha-1in IP and average yield was 66.6 q/ha in IP against an average yield of 48.7 q ha-1 in FP. Demonstration yield was 36% higher than the yield realized in the control plots . Gross returns, net profit and benefit cost ratio per hectare for demonstration were Rs.79,900,Rs.47,952 and 1.5 respectively against Rs.58,444, Rs.31363, 0.98 registered in the Farmers’ practice. An additional income of Rs.16589 ha-1 was obtained with the demonstrated technology over the farmers practice. Moreover SR-1 enhanced paddy straw production which is an important component of ration for cattle in the winter. The introduction of SR-4 variety of rice as IDM component from 2019 has been a success and the horizontal spread of the variety is fast covering approximately 25 % of the paddy area just within a few years after demonstration in the district. Shalimar Rice-4 variety recorded an average yield of 74.5 q ha-1 in the farmers’ participatory trials conducted across Kashmir valley, which was the highest observed so far. The results necessitated the promotion of this disease resistant variety as fast as possible given to its yield potential and farmers acceptance. Farm science center, Kulgam took a lead and conducted Frontline Demonstration programmes on the variety along with related package of practice.
