This chapter discusses the effects of Vitex agnus castus on hormonal imbalances in Polycystic Ovary Syndrome. PCOS is caused by an imbalance in female sex hormones and androgens, and can result in ovulation failure and infertility. The study found that treating albino rats with vitex agnus castus fruit extract normalized progesterone concentrations and reversed the altered levels in estradiol and progesterone. This suggests that chasteberry may affect the estrogen/progesterone balance and generate reverse adverse effects of hormonal imbalance for PCOS individuals.
