The healthcare sector in Indonesia, the world’s largest archipelagic country with a large and diverse population, faces unique challenges. With more than 17,000 islands and a population exceeding 270 million, Indonesia grapples with significant disparities in terms of access and quality of healthcare services across regions. According to the ‘World Health Statistics 2022’ report by the WHO, the COVID-19 pandemic has caused major disruptions to healthcare systems worldwide, including in Indonesia, with particular impacts on essential healthcare services and the health information systems of member countries. Diverse geographic conditions, economic and social disparities among regions, and healthcare infrastructure challenges further complicate the delivery of effective healthcare services.
