Magnification was first mentioned in Egypt 2,800 years ago, when basic glass meniscus lenses were described. A compound lens microscope was first discovered by Amsterdam merchant Anton van Leeuwenhoek in 1694. This was considered a turning point in the field of microsurgery. Microsurgery in dentistry has evolved through general medicine and surgery and has been available to the public since the year 1922. Carl Nylen, the founder of microsurgery, was the first to utilize a binocular microscope for ear surgery in 1921. Soon after its establishment in the field of medicine, microsurgery grew quickly and prospered.
